The ability to resize a Logical Volume and filesystem has long been provided by Logical Volume Manager (LVM) by simply using the entire block device (/dev/sdx for example) as a Physical Volume in the LVM Volume Group. This would allow the Logical Volume and filesystem to easily be expanded.
As to older style partitions, this feature has been added in RHEL 7 current release with a feature request (RFE has been filed to add support for online resize of disk partitions to RHEL 7 in private Red Hat Bugzilla 853105).
Enable ownership where a disk contains FSOs whose User and Group, and permissions, is critically important, such as when the plug-in disk contains system files to be changed or added .

Backups should be always be performed on a regular basis and before modifying any RAID.
If the RAID set is a mirror with a resizable filesystem, delete will attempt to convert each of the member partitions back into a non-RAID volume while retaining the contained filesystem.
Messages in the system log will refer to RAID sets and their member disks by UUID.
I partitioned my hd into 3 pieces, one of which is somehow corrupt and that volume is most important. Disk utility acknowledges that it exists, but wont let me access it. thats great but how do i back it up when it will not mount.
